Who We Are
Chantelle Taylor is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). She holds a diploma in Professional Counselling from Stenberg College with additional certifications in Therapeutic Play, Child Development and Childhood Anxiety.
She is trained in a variety of approaches; however, she tries to connect in a way that fits with the particular child or youth she is working with. While she mainly uses Therapeutic Play and Child-Centred Therapy, depending on the child, she may also use techniques from Art Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Chantelle has been inspired by her own background and upbringing, where emotions were often suppressed and even ignored. As a child, like so many others, she wasn’t necessarily getting the attention that would plant the seeds of confidence she would need as an adult.
Her parents did the best they could for their family. But we know that when a child isn’t given this needed attention at a young age, they can develop a lack of confidence. They might begin to question their self-worth. This sort of vulnerability is what fuels a child to subconsciously seek attention and validation in the wrong places as they get older.
As an adult, Chantelle also struggled with depression and anxiety. She needed a lot of control over her life in order to feel secure in her world. Her everyday life was heavy with worries and stress.
When she started having her own children, Chantelle knew she did not wish for them to go through what she experienced. She wanted the best for them. Yet she also realized the challenge of being the best parent she could be in the face of life’s demands.
Because of her struggles, Chantelle felt compelled to help other parents and their children tackle their challenges. She felt called to walk with others through their life journeys, because her experience told her no one should walk alone. So, she decided to study counselling, with a specialty in family and child therapy.
About Chantelle
Tanya Ovelson is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). She holds a diploma in Professional Counselling from Rhodes Wellness College, with additional certifications in Wellness Counselling and Life Skills Coaching.
Tanya offers a calm, empathetic, and client-centred approach, focusing on supporting families, parents, and youth aged 13–18. Her practice emphasizes strengthening parent-teen relationships, helping teens navigate emotional challenges, and coaching parents through family dynamics. For clients who value spiritual integration, Tanya offers faith-based counselling, incorporating Christian perspectives into the therapeutic process when requested.
Her approach draws from modalities such as Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness practices, all within a trauma-informed, holistic framework. Tanya believes there is no one-size-fits-all path in therapy and tailors her methods to meet each individual where they are.
Tanya brings not only clinical training but also lived experience to her work. As a former single parent, she understands firsthand the emotional, financial, and relational challenges that can come with raising a child alone. Her personal journey has given her insight into family dynamics shaped by co-dependency, attachment wounds, and the deep longing for connection. These experiences have strengthened her ability to sit with others in their pain and help them move toward healthier patterns, communication, and self-awareness as individuals and within their relationships.
Outside of counselling, Tanya enjoys singing with a local band, exploring new places through travel, and spending time with her family in Kelowna, BC, where she was born and raised.
